Tension Headaches

Commonly referred to as stress headaches, tension headaches are generally a dull, mild to moderate pain which feels like a tight band surrounding your head. Although they can be very painful, the good news is they are usually not indicative of a more serious condition, other than a stressful lifestyle or overexertion.

In many cases, over the counter medication may be recommended for tension headaches, but instead of masking the pain, chiropractic care is a very effective, natural solution to relieving pain and tension long-term.

If you’re experiencing constant band-like pain, tightness, or pressure around the forehead or back of the neck, one of our doctors can help assist you in relieving this pain at County Line Chiropractic.

Diagnosing tension headaches

Signs and symptoms

Tension headaches are frequently found to start in the back of your head and spread around to the front. The exact cause of them is not fully understood, but research has shown that they are linked to a heightened sensitivity to pain, stress, anxiety, fatigue, eye strain, and holding your head in the same position for extended periods of time.

A tension headache may appear periodically (“episodic,” less than 15 days per month) or daily (“chronic,” more than 15 days per month). An episodic tension headache may be described as a mild to moderate constant band-like pain, tightness, or pressure around the forehead or back of the head and neck. These headaches may last from 30 minutes to several days. Episodic tension headaches usually begin gradually, and often occur in the middle of the day.

How we help

  • Diagnose your cause of pain

During your first consultation, your chiropractor will start by asking you a few questions about your medical history, perform a physical examination, and discuss your symptoms to develop a working diagnosis. A digital X-ray or MRI may be needed to determine proper treatment for your tension headaches.

  • Customize a treatment plan

Once your diagnosis is determined, your doctor will perform a non-invasive chiropractic adjustment using minimal force and gentle pressure to realign the vertebrae and spine, relax the muscles, and relieve stress and tension causing your headaches.

  • Monitor your recovery progress

Depending on the severity and frequency of your tension headaches, your customized treatment plan may vary in the number of required follow-up visits. The good news is that County Line Chiropractic may help you feel better and you’ll be on the road to enjoying a higher quality of life.
