Herniated Disc

A herniated disc refers to a problem with one of the rubbery cushions (discs) between the individual bones (vertebrae) that stack up to make your spine. A herniated disc can irritate nearby nerves and result in pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg. A person suffering from a herniated disc may not even know of it until the herniated disc presses on a nerve, causing excruciating pain. At County Line Chiropractic, we understand just how painful and difficult it can be to suffer from this spinal condition, debilitating your work life, ability to sleep, and every day activities. Chiropractic care is an all-natural alternative to surgery and addictive medicine.

Diagnosing a herniated disc

Signs and symptoms

A herniated disc can be caused by natural aging and the normal wear and tear your body undergoes over time. As you get older, your spinal discs become less flexible and more prone to cracks and tears.

In addition to aging, herniated discs can develop because of a traumatic injury, often caused by lifting something heavy, an auto accident, or a slip and fall accident.

Symptoms depend on the severity of the herniation, and where it is affecting your spine. They are most frequently found in the lumbar spine, which can cause pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling in the buttox, leg, or foot. A herniation in your cervical spine can cause problems in your neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. Depending on the location, herniated discs can cause such intense pain that one loses complete range of motion.

  • Excruciating back pain
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Stiffness and difficulty in standing up straight
  • Numbness and weakness in buttox, leg, or foot
  • Tenderness of the spine

How we help

  • Diagnose your cause of pain

During your first consultation, your chiropractor will start by asking you a few questions about your medical history, perform a physical examination, discuss your symptoms, and will perform a digital X-ray or MRI to develop a working diagnosis for your back pain.

  • Customize a treatment plan

Once your injuries are diagnosed, your doctor will perform a non-invasive chiropractic adjustment using minimal force and gentle pressure to stretch the spine and isolate the affected area, move the herniated disc away from the nerve, and relieve pain and inflammation.

  • Monitor your recovery progress

Depending on the severity of your herniated disc, your customized treatment plan may vary in the number of required follow-up visits. The good news is that County Line Chiropractic may help you feel better and you’ll be on the road to enjoying a higher quality of life.
