When Is Vehicle Safety Recalls Week?

Vehicle Safety Recalls Week

This year, the dates for Vehicle Safety Recalls Week are March 7-13, 2022. Vehicle Safety Recalls Week is always the week leading up to the daylight saving time change.

What Is Vehicle Safety Recalls Week?

Vehicle Safety Recalls Week highlights the importance of heightened awareness of vehicle, tire, and car seat recalls. In 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced nearly 900 safety recalls that impacted more than 55 million vehicles and other products, but only around 3 out of 4 vehicles per year are actually fixed.

At least twice a year, such as when the time changes, you should check for recalls. If you find a relevant recall, take your vehicle to the dealership for a free repair or replacement of the defective part or contact the manufacturer of your car seat, tires, or other auto equipment for a free fix or replacement.

Why Do I Need to Check for Vehicle Safety Recalls?

Recalls are issued due to parts that have been discovered to have potentially dangerous defects. For example, GM recalled 2.7 million vehicles in 2014 after discovering that faulty ignition switches in their vehicles were causing deadly accidents. Crashes resulting from faulty GM ignition switches injured at least 275 people and killed at least 124.

Regularly checking for recalls could save the lives of you and your loved ones. Please contact County Line Chiropractic if you or a loved one have been injured due to a faulty GM ignition switch.

How Do I Check for Recalls on My Vehicle?

Vehicle Safety Recalls - Car Vin Number

To look for recalls on your vehicle, find your 17-character VIN number on the lower left of your car’s windshield, on a label inside the driver-side doorjamb, or on your vehicle’s insurance or registration documentation. Then, use that number to search the NHTSA website for active recalls.

If your vehicle is included in a recall, follow the instructions on how to get the issue fixed and address the issue as soon as you can. Manufacturers are required by law to fix vehicle defects for free, so you shouldn’t have to worry about the cost.

While you’re at it, check for recalls on your tires, car seats, and toys and get those taken care of, too.

Use the SaferCar App to Check Year-Round

The NHTSA now has a free SaferCar app where you can get recall information sent directly to your phone. Download the app for Android and iOS, add your vehicle and equipment, and they’ll send you an alert if a safety recall is issued.
