Did you know motor vehicle fatality is the leading cause of death for teenagers, representing more than one-third of all teen deaths?

That’s why every October, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) works together with State Farm Insurance and other partners across the country to promote National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW).

What is NTDSW? When is it? How can you get involved? What should you do if you or your teen were injured in a car accident? Read on for more information.

What Is National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW)?

National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to prevent teen injuries and deaths on the road. Trying to “scare teenagers straight” is not effective because it can be overwhelming, causing teens to shut down.

Instead, NTDSW focuses on positive actions teenagers can take to keep themselves and their friends safe. However, if your teen or a loved one was injured in a car accident, call or visit one of our six convenient South Florida locations.

When Is National Teen Driver Safety Week?

National Teen Driver Safety Week is the third full week in October each year. This year, it will be October 17-23, 2021.

How Can I Get Involved in NTDSW?

Teen Safety - Seatbelts

To get involved with NTDSW, you might choose to share teen driver safety messages in a school, your community, workplaces with teens, or in conjunction with law enforcement agencies.

Rather than trying to address all safety issues at once, you may want to choose one or more of these themes to focus on:

  • Seat belt use
  • Inexperience
  • Distracted driving prevention
  • Impaired driving prevention
  • Speed management

Here are some additional websites where you can find information on how to use NTDSW to promote positive teen driver safety behaviors:
