The Genesis (a division of Hyundai) G80 offers standard safety features including adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warnings. Buyers who want more safety features will need to purchase the ultimate safety package which comes with LED headlamps as well as a multi-view exterior camera, and more.
The Hyundai Sonata offers several highly rated safety features for which the buyer will have to add to the base model. The Sonata Limited is where the safety features kick into the package, delivering pedestrian detection technology, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and the high quality and performance LED headlights. The Limited’s trim level also offers a number of luxury features as well.
Also taking top rankings are the Kia Optima, Mercedes E-Class, Lincoln Continental, Subaru’s Legacy, Impress, Outback, as well as the Toyota Camry.
Generally, among the most dangerous vehicles are subcompacts and sports cars based on the latest research involving car accident occupant fatalities. Here is a compilation of those found twice as deadly as other vehicles on average.
The study concluded that despite the latest technological safety advances, smaller vehicles are still considered more dangerous than larger ones in the event of a serious accident. Subcompacts often lack the active safety features of larger, more expensive models, which also results in poor performance in the NHTSA and the IIHS crash tests. Similarly, most sports cars that do not feature active safety features are not crash tested and carry no safety ratings as they are designed for performance and speed. There are exceptions – including the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger.
In addition to subcompacts and sports cars, SUVs and pickup trucks are also often involved in fatalities on the road.
